Before I begin, I want to ensure that people who are reading this have already decided to make create their own pre-workout drinks. If you want to learn more about the benefits of creating your own pre-workout drink I insist that you explore my other posts to find out how you can save money and still get the same great pre-workout supplements that are necessary for your fitness success.
That being said, let me clarify that when I say “mixers” I’m referring to a substance that you can add, via liquid or powder form, to better the taste of your pre-workout. This is crucial if you plan on enjoying your drink, and if you haven’t already learned the hard way, I’m here to tell you why.
Why Mixers Are Necessary
Chances are that you are taking creatine as a main supplement for your pre-workout. Hopefully you’ve also decided to get creatine HCl, which is an overall better creatine for your money. One downside of this creatine, is that it tastes absolutely terrible. It’s bitter, sour, and will leave you cringing and shaking as you gulp it down. How can you get the benefits of supplementation when you can barely drink it all?
Luckily I’m here to rescue you and provide an amazing and simple solution.
The mixers will make the pre-workout taste so much better and even offer some benefits of their own, depending on which ones you choose. Obviously you get to pick the flavors of the mixers too. So you get to choose which flavors you like best and will enjoy tasting on a regular basis.
The best part is that if you get tired of a certain flavor, then you can just change it. You aren’t locked in to a certain flavor or pre-workout for an extended period of time like you are when you buy a brand-name pre-workout supplement.
Different Kinds of Mixers
Now there are many different kinds of mixers to choose from. I prefer a liquid based energy shot to squirt into my pre-workout because of the ease and lack of stirring. But you can also choose any kind of powder to mix in your drink. There are loads of different lemonades or teas that you can easily add to make the pre-workout taste much better.
You can even add different beverages to it. I usually mix my supplements with water, but you can mix them with juice, soda, or a sports drink (you probably shouldn’t mix it with alcohol, you might not like those results).
The possibilities are endless because you now have complete control over your supplementation!
Benefits of Mixers
If you choose a lemonade or soda or tea, it’s no surprise that there aren’t many nutrition benefits from consuming these products. In fact, the sugar and calories are not ideal for your fitness results. That being said, you have to do what you have to do. There have been plenty of times when I’ve run out of my energy shot and I can only find a lemonade powder to add to my pre-workout drink. There’s no shame in doing that, but there are better options.
The energy shots that I’m talking about are liquid water enhancers that usually come with caffeine or with electrolytes or other ingredients that can benefit you. If you choose to go with a caffeine based liquid water enhancer, you’ll receive a boost of energy during your workout if you’re taking it before (I usually like to take my pre-workout drink around thirty minutes before my workout, so that it’ll kick in by the time I reach the gym).
The water enhancers also can come with electrolytes. These help keep you hydrated; thus, benefiting your performance in the gym. It also helps to regulate your body temperature. You lose electrolytes when you sweat, so if you’re working out correctly you’re gonna need a lot of these.
Incorporating these into your pre-workout drinks just makes things easier because you’re hydrating yourself and receiving more energy when you drink them. It also is smart to have these when you’re supplementing with creatine since it will pull water into your muscles, and if there’s no water to pull then you’ll become more dehydrated.
So stay hydrated with your pre-workout mixers!
Make Your Pre-Workout More Enjoyable
If you’re taking control over your supplementation then pre-workout mixers are definitely needed. It would be truly impressive to find someone who would willingly consume their pre-workout supplements using only water. I know I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
They make the experience more enjoyable because you can choose your flavors and incorporate a variety. Maybe one day you’re feeling like a black cherry vibe, and the next day a green apple, and after that a grape. With this method of supplementation you have the complete power to do this, instead of having to buy a whole new pre-made pre-workout which costs a fortune.
So keep creating your own pre-workout drinks and make sure to incorporate different kinds of mixers to make them even better!
