If you’re looking into which supplements to use when constructing your pre-workout, chances are that you’ve heard the term: BCAA. You know by now that this refers to Branched-Chain Amino Acids, and these are proven to be very helpful when it comes to supplementation. If you’ve looked into other pre-made supplements, you might’ve seen that they had BCAA’s in them (hopefully).
But just like any other pre-workout supplement, Branched-Chain Amino Acids can be bought individually in a large package to be mixed into your very own pre-workout supplement drink.
These little molecules are amino acids that cannot be produced by the body, which means they must be consumed from outside products. They are found in common foods like dairy, eggs, and meats, but it is important to incorporate them into your pre-workout recipe to ensure that you are receiving the proper amount to reach the full potential of their benefits.
Branched-Chain Amino Acids have many health benefits because of their ability to promote muscle growth. BCAA’s are then used to treat issues in the brain and other muscle related illnesses. But we aren’t solely interested in that. We want to know how we can use BCAA’s to benefit our workouts and boost our overall results after consistent workout routines.
The main benefit of BCAA’s is that they help build protein in the muscles. This also helps prevent muscle breakdown. Rest easy knowing that all the protein you’re consuming is being put to good use.
I’ve found this to be very helpful because I have a very fast metabolism and I sometimes feel like my body is very eager to breakdown my muscles for energy. This occurs when I’m not eating enough or eating the right foods. It also happens if I decide to start cutting and lose fat.
To cut I incorporate more cardio and decrease my calorie intake. I then really rely on my BCAA’s to keep my muscles from depreciating. This system has proved to be successful in my life, and I definitely notice the difference in how my body works and functions when I haven’t taken my Branched-Chain Amino Acids (along with my other supplements).
BCAA’s can also reduce muscle soreness and promote recovery after workouts. I know a lot of people really enjoy being sore because then they know that they worked hard, but I personally enjoy knowing that my muscles are growing without being really sore so that I can still function throughout the day.
Yet another benefit of BCAA’s is that they can help reduce muscle fatigue, so that you can push harder in your workouts. By taking BCAA’s before your workout, the molecules will be digested and put to work almost immediately; whereas, if you were to only rely on your amino acid intake by dairy products, it would take much longer to kick in.
How to Know if the BCAA’s Are Legit
Many pre-made pre-workouts will claim to have Branched-Chain Amino acids inside. There is a way to tell if they are real, though. BCAA’s will not dissolve in water. So you’ll find that if you buy an individual bag of BCAA’s and try to mix it with a cup of water, there will be little white pieces of powder floating on the surface or stuck to the sides.
If a pre-workout brand (claiming to contain BCAA’s) mixes a little too easily, you have good reason to be skeptical.
Now, when you buy an individual bag of BCAA’s (along with other supplement ingredients) you can have confidence knowing that all the ingredients that you mix together are legit and good quality.
Cheaper to Buy In Bulk
I’ve found that buying a bigger bag of BCAA’s is ideal. Not only is it cheaper (per gram) but it obviously will last longer. In order to receive the full benefits you’re going to want to be taking a lot of BCAA’s on a consistent basis. I like to take it before my workout and sometimes after. Many bodybuilders and fitness gurus will take the BCAA’s pre and post workout as well as throughout the day.
By buying the BCAA’s in bulk I save money in the long run, and I buy myself more time to use it. I never want to run out of this supplement because I don’t want to risk losing the muscle that I worked so hard to gain, especially with how easily it seems for my body to eat away at my muscle. I buy a larger bag so that it will last longer and I can feel better about consuming them throughout the day as well.
Supplement Your Supplement
It is important to know that Branched-Chain Amino Acids are not the end-all pre-workout supplement. They are a supplement. This means you still have to have all the other supplements and proper nutrition. If there’s not enough protein going into the body, then there’s not enough protein to be synthesized into the muscles. If there’s not enough nutrients going into the body, then the BCAA’s will not be able to prevent all the muscle breakdown that will occur.
Supplementing with more protein will increase the effectiveness of BCAA’s. Eating enough healthy foods will help the BCAA’s prevent muscle breakdown. Mixing other supplements like Beta-Alanine and Creatine will boost your energy strength so that you can push yourself harder in your workouts so that the BCAA’s can kick-in to prevent muscle fatigue.
A Little Piece of the Fitness Body
There are many other aspects to proper nutrition and supplementation to achieve the best results on your fitness journey. Branched-Chain Amino Acids are simply a part of the fitness body.
This supplement proved to be very helpful to me for my fitness, but I still had to incorporate the other aspects to see even better results.
Supplementation itself has really boosted my gains in the gym and improved my day-to-day results. Branched-Chain Amino Acids are definitely a crucial aspect of this.
